Summer Activities

Elk View Lodge is such a wonderful base from which to enjoy the numerous world class activities that Fernie and the Elk Valley are able to offer a summer group or wedding.

Fly Fishing
The Elk River, and its main tributaries, the Wigwam and Michelle Creek as well as the nearby Bull River, Flathead and Koocanusa Lake offer world class dry-fly fishing either from guided boats or walk and wade.

Mountain Biking
Fernie is rapidly becoming a mountain bikers’ dream location; for the downhill enthusiast Fernie Alpine Resort is adding to its list of trails annually, and there are numerous other downhill specialist trails. For the cross country biker we are at the hub of a range of famed day-long rides that have become the staple diet of the ICU-sanctioned Transrockies and other races such as the Furious3. Fernie has an excellent All mountain trail network as well; one to rival the west coast amenities of Grouse Mountain.

Hiking
Fernie’s location in the heart of the Rockies allows nature watchers and hiking enthusiasts of all abilities to enjoy a truly memorable vacation. There are vast miles of marked trails ranging from easy 30-minute jaunts through to ridge walks and day long hikes in the true backcountry.

And many more…
There are a host of other group activities that make the lodge and Fernie a great choice. We have excellent golfing, white water rafting, river floating for the family, cliff jumping, a great local aquatic centre with water park, water slides, family pool, large hot tub, steam room and lane pool.

Winter Activities

Skiing

Fernie is without doubt one of the best skiers’ resorts in North America. It offers excellent family and beginner slopes but comes into its own for the advanced skier.

The steep and deep skiing available at the Fernie Alpine Resort is challenging yet as safe as possible due to their vast investment into avalanche prevention and control. Check out the new Polar Peek lift that accesses the very top of the mountain for outstanding views down the whole Elk Valley on a sunny day! Enjoy a beverage and some Nachos at the Griz Bar at the resort for Apres-ski or with unrivalled views of the ski hill and far more natural light with its West-facing aspect, our guests can enjoy Apres-ski outside on the lodge decks in relative sun-drenched warmth – even after the last lift has closed. Then relax in the on-site sauna or hot tub and enjoy the quiet sitting next to the fireplace.

Snowmobiling

For snowmobiling guests, the Lodge is the perfect base. It has the scale to accommodate vehicles and trailers, it has direct access to the network of sledding trails east of Fernie, and it has ample on-site amenities for others in your group to relax.

We can also arrange snowmobile trips for our guests who wish to sample the exhiliration of sledding in a controlled manner with experienced guides.

Snowshoeing and Cross-Country Skiing

For snowshoeing you can use many of the local hiking trails as well as some shoeshoe specific trails located at Fernie Alpine resort. FAR has a couple great cross-country skiing loops as well. There are groomed trails that skirt the Elk River as well as snake through the golf course. There are also some great trails near Island Lake Lodge and some newly built trails that can be accessed right near the lodge.
