Fernie’s old town is a lovely place to wander and relax, it has numerous quality stores offering a range of goods from sports shops, through artisan products, fine cheeses, luxury furniture, restaurants, bars and coffee shops.
You could get a massage at Spa 901, enjoy lunch at Loaf Bakery, buy some handmade chocolates at the Bean Pod chocolate factory, have a mid-afternoon cookie and coffee at Freshies, take a look in the Fernie Museum or a browse the new fashions at Freya and still have money left over to sample some cuisine at one of the many restaurants in Fernie. The nightlife in town is hopping and you have a choice of different pubs, bars, lounges, and nightclubs to listen to some live music or just have a relaxing pint.

For the cross country biker we are at the hub of a range of famed day-long rides that have become the staple diet of the ICU-sanctioned Transrockies and other races such as the Furious3. Fernie has an excellent All mountain trail network as well; one to rival the west coast amenities of Grouse Mountain.

Fernie is without doubt one of the best skiers’ resorts in North America. It offers excellent family and beginner slopes but comes into its own for the advanced skier.
The steep and deep skiing available at the Fernie Alpine Resort is challenging yet as safe as possible due to their vast investment into avalanche prevention and control. Check out the new Polar Peek lift that accesses the very top of the mountain for outstanding views down the whole Elk Valley on a sunny day! Enjoy a beverage and some Nachos at the Griz Bar at the resort for Apres-ski or with unrivalled views of the ski hill and far more natural light with its West-facing aspect, our guests can enjoy Apres-ski outside on the lodge decks in relative sun-drenched warmth – even after the last lift has closed. Then relax in the on-site sauna or hot tub and enjoy the quiet sitting next to the fireplace.
For snowmobiling guests, the Lodge is the perfect base. It has the scale to accommodate vehicles and trailers, it has direct access to the network of sledding trails east of Fernie, and it has ample on-site amenities for others in your group to relax.

Snowshoeing and Cross-Country Skiing
For snowshoeing you can use many of the local hiking trails as well as some shoeshoe specific trails located at Fernie Alpine resort. FAR has a couple great cross-country skiing loops as well. There are groomed trails that skirt the Elk River as well as snake through the golf course. There are also some great trails near Island Lake Lodge and some newly built trails that can be accessed right near the lodge.
